Switchboard upgrades

Old switchboards replaced, and new circuits added to boards already in place.

Overview

The work

A switchboard upgrade replaces an old board with a modern enclosure, circuit breakers and safety switches. Older boards often have rewireable ceramic fuses and no RCD protection at all. They also run out of room once a house has had a few circuits added to it over the years.

The work means isolating the supply, taking the old board out, mounting and wiring the new one, then testing every circuit before the power goes back on. In Victoria, electrical installation work is covered by a Certificate of Electrical Safety.
