Overview
The work
Fault finding starts by narrowing down which circuit is involved, then working back along it to the point where the fault sits. Common causes are water in an outdoor fitting, a failed appliance, damaged cable, or a connection that has worked loose.
A safety switch that keeps tripping is detecting a fault, and resetting it does not deal with the cause. How long a fault takes to find depends on how the property is wired and how easy the cabling is to get to.
